Tomato Chutney

This is a tasty side dish for idly and dosa

Ingredients

For tomato chutney base

  • 2 tbsp Cooking oil
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 nos Onion Chopped
  • 2 nos Tomatoes Chopped
  • 1 tsp Chilli powder
  • Salt to taste

For tempering

  • 2 tsp Cooking Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Urad Dal
  • 1 nos Dry red chilli
  • few Curry leaves

Instructions

For tomato chutney base

  • Heat cooking oil in a thick bottomed vessel and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and garlic cloves.
  • Add a chopped onion and mix well.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and mix.
  • Add chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt to taste and saute.
  • Close with a lid and cook on low flame for 10 minutes.
  • Allow to cool and then transfer the contents to blender.
  • Blend well.
  • Transfer the chutney to a bowl.

For tempering

  • Heat oil in a small vessel and add mustard seeds, urad dal, dry red chilli and a few Curry leaves.
  • Fry them briefly and add to the tomato chutney.
  • Mix well, serve with love and share the goodness.
