Potato Masala

Best side dish for Poori

Ingredients

  • 3 nos Potatoes
  • 3 cups Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Chana dal
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
  • 1 nos Onion (Chopped)
  • 1 tsp Ginger (Grated)
  • 3 nos Green Chillies (Chopped)
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 string Curry Leaves (Chopped)
  • 2 strings Coriander Leaves (Chopped)

Instructions

  • Wash 3 potatoes and place them in a cooker. Add 3 cups of water and salt to taste.
  • Close the cooker lid and pressure cook for 4 whistles.
  • Open the cooker after the pressure releases and peel the potatoes.
  • Mash the potatoes well.
  • Heat oil in a vessel and add mustard seeds, chana dal, cumin seeds, curry leaves and mix well.
  • Turn the stove to medium, add onions and saute.
  • Add ginger and green chillies and stir well.
  • Add turmeric powder and salt to taste and mix well.
  • Add the mashed potatoes and mix well.
  • Add half a cup of water, one teaspoon of lemon juice, chopped coriander leaves, mix well and allow to cook.
  • Turn of the stove when it is at a soft consistency. This Potato masala is best when served with Poori.
