Palak Paneer

Palak Paneer

This is a tasty and healthy vegetarian food used as side dish for rotis as well as rice. Palak paneer is one of the favorite dishes of India !

Ingredients

  • 2 bunches Spinach leaves
  • 300 grams Paneer cubes
  • 8 cups Water
  • 1 inch Ginger piece
  • 2 nos Green chillies sliced
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp Garlic chopped
  • 1 no Onion chopped
  • 1 cup Tomato puree (or paste)
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Kasuri methi crushed
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seed powder
  • 1/4 tsp Garam masala powder

Instructions

  • Boil water and add spinach leaves and boil for 1 minute.
  • Strain the spinach and add cold water over it.
  • Place the spinach in a mixie jar, ginger & sliced green chillies and grind to a smooth paste.
  • Heat ghee in a pan.
  • Add paneer cubes to the pan.
  • Slightly roast on each side for 30 seconds – do not fry for a long time as the paneer will become hard.
  • Keep aside, a few paneer cubes for garnishing.
  • In the same pan, add cumin seeds, chopped garlic and chopped onion and saute.
  • Add tomato paste or tomato pureed in a blender, mix well and saute.
  • Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, rushed kasuri methi, cumin seed powder and mix well.
  • Close with a lid and cook for few minutes on a low flame.
  • Open the lid, add the blended spinach, salt to taste, garam masala powder and mix well.
  • Add fresh cream and mix well.
  • Add the fried paneer cubes and mix gently.
  • Garnish with a few crumbled pieces of fresh paneer that was set aside.
  • Palak paneer is ready to be served.
