Chettinad style Mutton Chukka

Mutton Chukka

This is a dry fry mutton recipe from the heart of Chettinad.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams Mutton
  • 1 nos Tomato Chopped
  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 3 tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 2 pcs Cinnamon
  • 2 nos Bay leaves
  • 1 tsp Fennel seeds
  • 5 nos Cloves
  • 4 nos Cardamom
  • 1 tbsp Garlic Chopped
  • Curry leaves few
  • 1 cup Shallots Sliced
  • 2 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp Pepper powder
  • 1 tsp Garam masala powder
  • 2 nos Green chillies Sliced
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • Coriander leaves few

Instructions

  • Add mutton, ginger garlic paste, salt to taste and turmeric powder in a pressure cooker and cook on medium flame.
  • The mutton releases a little water. Add quarter cup water.
  • Pressure cook for 6 whistles. Open after the pressure releases.
  • Heat oil in a thick bottomed vessel and add the cinnamon, bay leaves, fennel seeds, cloves, cardamom, Chopped garlic, chopped curry leaves and sliced shallots.
  • Saute to golden brown color.
  • Add the pressure cooked mutton with gravy.
  • Add coriander powder, chilly powder, pepper powder, and garam masala.
  • Mix well and cook on medium flame.
  • Add the sliced green chillies.
  • Add cumin powder, mix well and cook until the mutton gets roasted.
  • Add a few chopped coriander leaves.
  • Mutton Chukka is ready – Serve with love and share the goodness.

Step by step method

Add mutton, ginger garlic paste, salt to taste and turmeric powder in a pressure cooker and cook on medium flame.

Add a few chopped coriander leaves.

Mutton Chukka is ready – Serve with love and share the goodness.
