Lauki Dal

This is a simple healthy vegetarian side dish

Equipment

  • Pressure cooker

Ingredients

Main dish

  • 500 gms Bottle gourd cut
  • 3 tbsp Moong dal
  • 2 tbsp Channa dal
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups Water

To grind

  • 1/4 cup Coconut grated
  • 2 nos Green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 cup Water

Tempering

  • 2 tbsp Cooking oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 no Dry red chilly
  • Few nos Curry leaves chopped

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a vessel add Moong dal and Channa dal, wash 2-3 times and soak for 20 minutes
  • Peel the bottle gourd, remove the seeds and cut into cubes
  • In a mixer, add grated coconut, green chillies, cumin seeds and water and grind to coarse paste

Main dish

  • In a pressure cooker, add the soaked dal and bottle gourd pieces
  • Add turmeric powder and water and pressure cook to 3 whistles
  • Open after pressure releases, add salt to taste, add the ground coconut paste, mix well and add a few chopped coriander leaves – boil for 2 minutes

Tempering

  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let it splutter, add dry red chilly and a few chopped curry leaves and pour the mixture into the main dish and mix well

Step by step method

In a vessel add Moong dal and Channa dal, wash 2-3 times and soak for 20 minutes
