Khatta Meeta Karela

This sweet and sour bitter gourd recipe is to entice children. It is a side dish with rice or roti.

Ingredients

  • 2 nos Bitter gourd sliced
  • 2 tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tbsp Garlic chopped
  • 1 no Onion chopped
  • 1 string Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Chilli powder
  • 3 tbsp Tamarind soaked water
  • 1 tbsp Jaggery
  • 1 tbsp Sesame seeds
  • 1 cup Water

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a thick bottomed vessel and add mustard, cumin & fenugreek seeds.
  • Add chopped garlic, onions & curry leaves and mix well.
  • Add the sliced bitter gourd & salt to taste and saute.
  • Add turmeric powder and chilli powder and mix well
  • Add some water, mix well and cook with closed lid for 10 minutes.
  • Add tamarind water.
  • Add jaggery, mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Add sesame seeds and mix well.
  • Khatta meeta karela is ready !

Step by step method
