Khatta Meeta Karela
This sweet and sour bitter gourd recipe is to entice children. It is a side dish with rice or roti.
Ingredients
- 2 nos Bitter gourd sliced
- 2 tbsp Cooking Oil
- 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds
- 1 tbsp Garlic chopped
- 1 no Onion chopped
- 1 string Curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Chilli powder
- 3 tbsp Tamarind soaked water
- 1 tbsp Jaggery
- 1 tbsp Sesame seeds
- 1 cup Water
Instructions
- Heat oil in a thick bottomed vessel and add mustard, cumin & fenugreek seeds.
- Add chopped garlic, onions & curry leaves and mix well.
- Add the sliced bitter gourd & salt to taste and saute.
- Add turmeric powder and chilli powder and mix well
- Add some water, mix well and cook with closed lid for 10 minutes.
- Add tamarind water.
- Add jaggery, mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Add sesame seeds and mix well.
- Khatta meeta karela is ready !
