Jhalmuri or Masala muri is an Indian street snack from West Bengal , India. It is also very popular in Bangladesh and the Eastern regions of India. Jhal muri or Jhaal muri is a mix of puffed rice, mix of many spice powders, vegetables, chanachur / roasted gram, sev bhujia and finally toss with lemon juice and mustard oil.

It is a healthy snack that can be easily made at home and also very light for stomach. Anyone can make it easily with simple ingredients available at home

Jhalmuri or Masala pori

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Puffed Rice
  • 1/4 cup Roasted peanuts
  • 1/4 cup Roasted gram
  • 1/2 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp Dry mango powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/2 cup Chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup Boiled potatoes
  • 1/2 cup Grated carrots
  • 1/2 cup Cucumber
  • 1/4 cup Tomatoes
  • few Coriander leaves
  • 2 nos Green chillies
  • 2 tbsps Lemon juice
  • 2 tsps Mustard oil
  • 1 cup Bhujia sev

Instructions

  • Take a large bowl
  • Add the puffed rice into the bowl and add the remaining dry ingredients one by one.
  • Add roasted peanuts, roasted channa gram, chilli powder, roasted cumin powder, chaat masala powder, dry mango powder or the amchur powder and salt.
  • Mix well.
  • Then add the veggies such as onions , carrots, cucumbers, green chillies and tomatoes.
    Add very less tomatoes as it will turn the puffed rice soggy quickly.
  • Then garnish it with coriander leaves, lemon juice, mustard oil and bhujia sev.
  • Mix well again and serve immediately.

Notes

This chaat snack cannot be stored for a long time as the puffed rice turns soggy quickly after adding wet ingredients. Mix all the wet ingredients just before serve.
Add more bhujia sev for extra crunchiness.

Step By Step Method

Mix all the dry ingredients,

roasted peanuts, roated gram, chilli powder, roasted cumin powder, chaat masala powder, dry mango powder and salt.

Then mix all the veggies

Chopped onions, grated carrots, boiled potatoes, finely chopped cucumbers, few chopped tomatoes, green chillies and coriander leaves.

Finally add lemon juice, mustard oil and bhujia sev.

Quick and easy chaat snack is ready to serve.
