Ginger Chutney

Sweet and spicy chutney for Idly and Dosa

Ingredients

For Chutney

  • 1 tbsp Cooking oil
  • 2 tsp Chana dal
  • 2 tsp Urad dal
  • 1/2 cup Ginger chopped
  • 8 nos Dry red chillies
  • 1 pc Tamarind small piece
  • 1 tbsp Jaggery
  • Salt to taste
  • Water a little

For Tempering

  • 2 tsp Cooking Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Urad dal
  • 1 no Dry red chilli
  • Few nos Curry leaves

Instructions

  • Heat cooking oil in a thick bottomed vessel and add chana dal, urad dal & chopped ginger and saute well
  • Add dry red chillies, mix well and a small piece of tamarind and mix well
  • Add jaggery, mix well and add salt to taste and mix well
  • Allow the contents to cool and grind in a mixer – add a little water for consistency
  • Transfer to a bowl and get ready for tempering the chutney
  • Heat 2 tsps of cooking oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, dry red chilli and a few curry leaves
  • Allow it to splutter and pour over the chutney and mix well

Step by step method
