Butter chicken is a creamy smooth gravy with boneless chicken. It is a simple and easy dish liked by kids and adults. It is not very spicy and is a rich and creamy signature Indian dish. This mouth-watering gravy goes very well with rotis as well as rice.

Butter Chicken

Ingredients

For Butter chicken sauce / gravy

  • 2 tbsp Butter unsalted
  • 2 nos Onions medium size
  • 8 cloves Garlic
  • 2 pieces Ginger small
  • 2 nos Tomatoes red ripe
  • 15 nos Cashews
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri Chilly powder
  • taste Salt
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1/4 cup Cream
  • 3/4 tsp Kasuri Methi crushed

For Chicken Marination

  • 300 g Chicken boneless
  • 1 tsp Chilly powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala powder
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice

Instructions

For Butter chicken sauce / gravy

  • Add butter in a pan and let it melt on a low flame.
  • Dice medium sized onions and add them to the pan.
  • Add garlic and ginger and saute well.
  • Then add the chopped tomatoes and cashews.
  • Again saute well for few minutes. 
  • Follow it with Kashmiri chilly powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder and salt.
  • Add a little water and cook well with a closed lid for 10 minutes.
  • Let it cool down and then blend it to a smooth paste.

For Chicken Marination

  • Marinate the chicken with salt, chilly powder, garam masala powder, lemon juice and set aside for 30 minutes.

Finishing the Butter Chicken

  • Heat Oil in a pan.
  • Fry the marinated chicken on both sides for 10 minutes.
  • In the same hot oil, add the onion tomato mixture.
  • Add butter, kasuri methi and the cooked chicken.
  • To this, add fresh cream, mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
