Creamiest Aval Payasam – Poha Kheer

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Aval (Poha)
  • 4 cubes Jaggery (400 gms approx)
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 12 nos Cashewnuts
  • 12 nos Raisins
  • 3 cups Milk
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder

Instructions

  • Heat jaggery and water in a vessel while stirring occasionally
  • Boil until the jaggery dissolves to a syrup
  • Filter the jaggery syrup to remove any solids and keep aside
  • Heat ghee in a pan and add cashewnuts and raisins
  • Saute until they turn golden brown, remove from the pan and keep aside
  • Add Aval (Poha) into the pan
  • Roast it in the remaining ghee
  • Add milk to the roasted Aval (Poha)
  • Add cardamom powder for flavour and aroma
  • Mix the jaggery syrup and bring to a boil
  • Add the cashewnuts and raisins
  • Aval payasam ready – can be had warm or cold

Step by step Method

Saute until they turn golden brown, remove from the pan and keep aside

Add Aval (Poha) into the pan

Roast it in the remaining ghee

Add milk to the roasted Aval (Poha)

Add cardamom powder for flavour and aroma

Mix the jaggery syrup and bring to a boil

Add the cashewnuts and raisins

Aval payasam ready – can be had warm or cold
