Creamiest Aval Payasam – Poha Kheer
Simple and yummy sweet dish
Ingredients
- 1 cup Aval (Poha)
- 4 cubes Jaggery (400 gms approx)
- 1/4 cup Water
- 12 nos Cashewnuts
- 12 nos Raisins
- 3 cups Milk
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
Instructions
- Heat jaggery and water in a vessel while stirring occasionally
- Boil until the jaggery dissolves to a syrup
- Filter the jaggery syrup to remove any solids and keep aside
- Heat ghee in a pan and add cashewnuts and raisins
- Saute until they turn golden brown, remove from the pan and keep aside
- Add Aval (Poha) into the pan
- Roast it in the remaining ghee
- Add milk to the roasted Aval (Poha)
- Add cardamom powder for flavour and aroma
- Mix the jaggery syrup and bring to a boil
- Add the cashewnuts and raisins
- Aval payasam ready – can be had warm or cold
